  13. The October mailing is going out today and contains information on the
  14. following programs. Due to several requests, we've decided to link you directly
  15. with an overview of the current materials.  Please let us know if you find
  16. this of value or any suggestions for improving the content of this link.

  19. DATA BASE UPDATE - This disk-based survey is needed to update your group's
  20. profile in the UGC database and will be useful in keeping track of your group
  21. and your group's activities.  User Groups will be dropped from the database if
  22. this disk-survey is not returned to the UGC.

  25. UG MEMBER PURCHASE PROGRAM - We are pleased to introduce a new User Group
  26. Member Purchase Program.  This program is exclusively for Apple Authorized User
  27. Group members.  It is a monthly promotion offering REFURBISHED products at
  28. aggressively low prices.  Following are a few of the questions that are part of
  29. a full outline of the program in the October mailing:

  31. Who can participate in the program?
  32. Only members of an Apple Authorized User Group may take advantage of this
  33. program.  The UGC Team will verify membership with the User Group Ambassador.

  35. How will we know what products will be available?
  36. The UGC Team will send out a product availability sheet in the UGC monthly
  37. mailing or you can call th UGC hotline at: 408-974-4060 (this number good until
  38. November 10.  Our new numbers will be in the next mailing and they will be
  39. posted on our Bulletin Boards on Alink and AOL). Products will vary with each
  40. monthly promotion.

  42. Here is our price list for the October promotion.  Please note that refurbished
  43. products are equipment that has been returned to Apple by existing resellers.
  44. It may have been returned for any of a number of reasons, including
  45. discontinuation of that model, a return by a customer, or a malfunction in the
  46. product.  All returns are checked for proper function, repaired if necessary,
  47. repackaged, and marked "refurbished" on the box.

  64. An order form has been included in the October mailing.  If you would like to
  65. develop your own form, you may.  Be sure to include ALL the information on the

  79. How does a member pay for their order?
  80. The User Group Connection will take VISA, MASTERCARD, or CASHIER's Checks only
  81. (there will be an area to fill this information out on the order form).

  83. Is there a restriction on the amount of products each member can purchase?
  84. Yes.  User Group members may only purchase two (2) products of each item.  More
  85. than two products purchased for training rooms for the benefit of the whole

  90. Will these products have a warranty?
  91. Yes.  Products sold through the User Group Connection come with a 90-day
  92. in-home warranty.

  95. APPLE SYSTEM SOFTWARE LICENSING AGREEMENT -  The October mailing contains
  96. detailed informaton on the revised System Software Agreement.  User Groups that
  97. have signed a System Software Agreement please take note of the new
  98. distribution system software list in the mailing.  With a completed agreement
  99. in place, you can participate in this program at no cost.  Here are some of the
  100. most commonly asked questions and answers regarding this licensing agreement:

  102. Who needs to be licensed?
  103. If you use all or part of any Apple software that will be distributed to other
  104. people, you need to license the use of htat software from Apple Computer, Inc.
  105. This is true whether the product is sold, used internally, or given away.
  106.  
  107. Why do I need to be licensed?
  108. We license our software in order to protect our legal rights.  Apple's
  109. intellectual property - consisting of the name, logo, trademarks, and
  110. copyrighted material, is a valuable corporate asset.  Apple software is
  111. copyrighted, and it is illegal for anyone to redistribute it without a license.
  112. Our User Group Software Distribution Agreement allows user groups to distribute
  113. Apple software to their user group members.

  115. What is considered Apple software?
  116. Apple software consists of any software developed by Apple, including our
  117. system software and developer tools.

  119. What Apple software will I be allowed to distribute?
  120. You may only distribute that Apple software outlined in Exhibit A (see October
  121. mailing) that is updated from time to time and user groups are notified of
  122. additional Apple software that may be distributed.

  124. When do I need to contact the Software Licensing department?
  125. User groups must contact the Software Licensing Department before distributing
  126. any materials to their user groups.  Apple requires user groups to mark the
  127. software with Apple's copyright notice and to distribute an end-user agreement
  128. with the software.

  130. What are the licensing fees?
  131. there are no licensing fees for Apple registered user groups.
